American Idol Season 3 winner Fantasia Barrino recently shouted out Jennifer Lopez in the middle of her speech at the ELLE Women in Hollywood Awards. Barrino paid a compliment to Lopez, calling her a “piece of art.”
Fantasia Barrino Shouts Out Jennifer Lopez During Speech
Barrino took the stage at the ELLE Women in Hollywood Awards on Tuesday with her The Color Purple co-stars Taraji P. Henson and Danielle Brooks. The three actresses, along with Lopez and several others, were honored at the event.
“I never thought I would be back here in front of y’all. And we all have imaginations when we’re down and we see ourselves up,” Barrino said in her speech, according to People. “When we feel like we can’t bounce back, we vision ourselves. J. Lo, good God almighty. You look like a piece of art. I’m sorry.”
Lopez attended the event in a striking outfit featuring a fitted black skirt and a silver crop top, showing off her toned midsection. She accessorized the look with statement earrings and slicked-back hair. Barrino also wore a bold look, featuring a sparkly blue jumpsuit accessorized with a gold chain.

Barrino Also Shouted Out Leonardo DiCaprio
This isn’t the first time Barrino has become starstruck by a fellow celebrity during an awards speech. In November, she mentioned Leonardo DiCaprio during a speech at Variety‘s Power of Women event.
According to People, Barrino became distracted while delivering her speech and said, “Oh my God, is that Leonardo DiCaprio?” She continued, “Sorry! Keep this in the film. Hi, love you!”
Barrino compared it to when she sees Oprah Winfrey, whom she referred to as “Queen Oprah.” DiCaprio himself later mentioned Barrino while introducing his Killers of the Flower Moon co-star Lily Gladstone, calling the singer “my new best friend.”
You can see Barrino reprise her Broadway character Celie when The Color Purple comes out in movie theaters on Christmas Day.
