The Masked Singer judge Ken Jeong stopped by Live with Kelly and Ryan this week and talked about his past as a doctor. Jeong revealed the one thing he misses about practicing medicine, as well as what he doesn’t miss so much.

‘The Masked Singer’s Ken Jeong Misses Being a Doctor

Jeong is a licensed physician who stopped practicing medicine to focus on his acting career. Guest co-host Ali Wentworth asked Jeong if any of his former patients recognized him in his comedy roles, such as The Hangover.

Jeong said they have, and he still keeps in contact with some of his patients, even though it’s been 16 years since he stopped practicing. A few years ago, he got a former patient a ticket to one of his stand-up shows after she reached out to him.

“I miss the patients,” Jeong said of his past career. “I miss the patient care. I don’t miss the hours. Every physician, they’re working every other holiday. It’s real work. But I do miss connecting.”

The comedian also gave a shout-out to host Kelly Ripa, who was out due to Covid-19. He sent her all the best and shared his hope that she gets better soon, “from Dr. Ken.”

Jeong Will Give the Tulane Commencement Speech

Jeong did a year of medical research at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He joked that it was “an excuse, basically, to hang out in New Orleans for credit.” However, he mentioned that he got an article published during that time.

Now Jeong is returning to Tulane on May 21 to deliver the commencement address to graduates. He said he’s still working on what he’s going to say, but he brought up the current state of the pandemic as a topic to address.

“We’re all in a new, uncertain era. And we need new, fresh minds,” Jeong said. “We need new, fresh graduates to help us, because we’re all tapped out. So we need new minds that can think outside the box to help usher us into a new time.”
