The Voice returned to NBC for their third set of blind auditions. Tonight’s episode began with early release singer, Ryley Tate Wilson singing “Dancing On My Own” by Robyn. Now, superfans of The Voice know that Ryley joined Team Niall.
Perfect Pitch, Deaf Singer Joins Team
One of the most shocking performances of the night was performed by singer, Ali. The Walnut, California native was born deaf, which her father discovered when she was a baby. On the show, she sang a beautiful rendition of “Killing Me Softly With His Song” by Fugees.
Her singing turned the chairs of both Kelly Clarkson and Chance The Rapper. Since it was impossible to know from the blind audition, the coaches were surprised when Ali explained that she was born deaf. Each coach complimented the singer and wished her well ahead of her decision.
“If you had lined up all the singers we had heard so far and then said pick which one is hearing impaired, you would be probably the last one that I would say,” Blake Shelton said. “That vocal was incredible, the only reason that I didn’t hit my button is because that’s so far out of my lane musically and outside of that, wow.”
Clarkson and Chance The Rapper were both pretty persuasive, since they both talked about her vocal style and performance. Chance The Rapper edged Clarkson though, when he mentioned that he’s witnessed ASL at various festivals and would love to hear the singer perform gospel. In the end, Ali picked Team Kelly.
Former Rejected Singer Gets Redemption
The Voice fans saw a familiar face on tonight’s episode. After an unsuccessful audition in season 22, Manasseh Samone picked her head back up and returned to the stage. The 22 year old took the opportunity to share her experience through “Rise Up” by Andra Day.
As per usual, Blake Shelton didn’t comment on the singer, or mention her being on the prior season. Instead, Chance The Rapper immediately began complimenting the singer’s vocal skills. It was clear that she had prior opera training ahead of the show. Manasseh only turned one chair, Chance The Rapper’s. Although the coaches knew how talented she was, they all said they didn’t pick her because her style was too out of their wheelhouse.

The final singer of the episode is bluegrass singer Lara Littleton. The 26 year old grew up watching her father perform in a bluegrass band in Dixon, Tennessee. Once she graduated high school, she suffered with depression, due to her friends going off to college. Throughout her suffering, she found music as her light in the darkness.
The singer came to the stage singing a unique, bluegrass rendition of “Sign of The Times” by Harry Styles. Right away, Clarkson hit her block to prevent Shelton from taking the artist. After the chairs turned around, Clarkson admitted she should’ve blocked Niall, since he has continually turned for country artists, including Lara.
Before picking a team, Lara complimented Shelton, saying that his presence is what makes the show itself worthwhile. In the moment, Clarkson admitted she felt bad for keeping Lara from Team Blake. Clarkson and Niall Horan laid on the persuasion heavy for this one, since she sang one of his ex-band members’ songs. In the end, Lara joined Team Niall.
The Voice blind auditions continue on Tuesday, March 14 at 9 p.m. ET. Be sure to tune into NBC to see the teams fill up.
