Wendy Moten gained national fame after appearing on The Voice season 21. Even though she finished as runner up, her legacy is set to outlive her. Wendy is not only remembered as a great singer, but also as the singer that tripped on live television.
The Voice fans will never forget when Wendy Moten tripped on her way off stage during a live show. Her fall made headlines across the country. Now, nearly six months later, Wendy has revealed what actually happened on stage.
Wendy Moten Explains Her The Voice Injury
During The Voice live shows in late November, this singer suffered from a topple while exiting stage after a performance. Fans were unsure what happened as they witnessed it on TV, even host Carson Daly was speechless. Now, Wendy explains that she was so focused on her next move, that she tripped over a monitor. In her retelling, she emphasized that she knew her elbow was broken as soon as she landed, noting “that’s what something that’s broken looks like, I’ve never been injured.”
Fans were confused as to why Wendy reappeared later in the episode, emphasizing she was okay, only to appear on the next episode with a giant cast. Now, Wendy explains that she agreed to make a statement on the live show, since her family and husband were in Tennessee when it occurred. The producers asked her to walk out and say “yes I’m injured, but I’m ok” and Wendy was thankful.
Even though Wendy didn’t cry over the pain, her elbow and hand were broken. The singer stated that the injury was so bad that she still is attending physical therapy three times a week. Due to additional fractures in her hand, she’s unable to make a fist. Reportedly Wendy was rushed to the hospital after the show, skipping the rehearsal for her Top 10 performance.
Her Experience On Team Blake, Knowing Vince Gill
It’s no secret that Wendy had a lengthy career in music ahead of The Voice. Since this singer had such a history in the competition, many wonder what it was like to work with a mentor. Wendy explains that Blake Shelton was a great coach because he respected her experience and didn’t want to cloud or get in the way of her.
The singer even told a story where Shelton helped her the most. While preparing for a Whitney Houston cover on the show, the singer got in her head from years of being told she didn’t fill Houston’s shoes entirely. Instead, Shelton encouraged her to sing it in her own way. Oddly enough, Wendy noted that she had a similar experience working with country star Vince Gill.
After appearing at the Grand Ole Opry, Wendy worked with Gill on her album, “I’ve Got You Covered.” The songs on the album were hand picked by Gill, who helped her out by producing the album and picking his best musicians for free. Half of the cover album was created based on Wendy’s fresh interpretation, she hadn’t heard half the songs ahead of recording.
In response to Wendy’s recent interview, Gill shared that she will be performing in his summer tour. Gill’s tour runs from June to August, with multiple dates in cities like Nashville, Atlanta, Tulsa, and more. Even though Gill’s website doesn’t specify, it seems like Wendy will appear at all of the tour dates.
